Artist of the Week : Mary Lambert
Mary
Lambert came to prominence alongside Macklemore with whom she worked in particular for Same Love, a noteworthy song from his
album Heist. We especially retained through this first performance her
commitment for the gay cause. A native of Seattle, this young songwriter who
made her coming out from the age of 17 years, is now recognized for her poetry,
introducing in a recurring way autobiographical parts mingling the traumas of her abused childhood, the religious sectarianism of her family environment and the
issue of the sexual orientation she struggles to claim. She taught herself to play the piano but it is especially in the
spoken word poetry that she succeeded to assert her talent, even winning international
competitions thanks to the highly emotional nature of her renditions. Her new song

album gets back in a light way to topics so dear to her, as if she could take a step
back towards the dark reminiscences of her childhood and be more interested in
style and form.
