 Artist of the Week : Lana Del Rey

....Lana Del Rey's new video for High By The Beach finds the starlet at a beautiful beach house, being stalked by some serious creepers in a helicopter, likely out to harsh her mellow. But Lana will do whatever it takes to protect her privacy, and busts out the heavy artillery - a massive, futuristic gun which you may have seen in the teaser she tweeted. The creepers shall creep no more. The song is more than just a sun-soaked stoner anthem - It’s about catching that carefree feeling, even if she has to leave a lover and, gasp, get high by the beach. It’s a meditation on freeing yourself from the weight of negative influences and just being. Let’s see… she sings “All I wanna do is get high by the beach / Get high by the beach, get high. All I wanna do is get by by the beach / Get by baby, baby bye bye.” Actually, that sounds exactly like a sun-soaked stoner anthem…

Del Rey told Beats Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe that the song has an “Andrews Sisters vibe” with a trap influence - making it one of the smokey voiced chanteuse’s most upbeat and remarkable tracks to date. Her seductive voice warms us like a velvety blanket in a cool ocean breeze, and the visuals are simply stunning. As with all of her previous videos High By The Beach oozes sexuality and mystery, but that should surprise nobody.

Undoubtedly Honeymoon, her follow-up to the incredible Ultraviolence, is one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. Lana promised its release in September, and judging by the first two singles, it’s going to be a gem. We know September isn’t far off, but it’s hard to contain our excitement for the album. We’ll just have to put High By The Beach on loop, and hope for her second video to tide us over until then.....
