Artists of the Week : Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Crazy! The only word to qualify Macklemore’s last clip is "crazy." Being a dad for the first time has not definitely softens him. Quite the opposite. Downtown is the new video showing a coming hit that will be on his next album. But especially, brace well  yourself before watching it since this is a rather unsettling experience even overall enjoying. Funky and explosive, Downtown talks primarily about scooter and hip-hop culture in the  70's - 80's US.  To speak frankly, this clip is very elusive. The first emerging  impression is that it is a response to the interplanetary Uptown Funk hit from Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars. Except that the southern districts are concerned. The second impression is that it is a hymn to the hip-hop and funky American culture. The third impression is that it is all of these things. Deliberatly old school, you can particularly see an Egyptian chariot where horses are replaced by Harley-Davidsons with the head of a moose for lights. I warned you, this video is crazy.

The lyrics are also in full complicity with the scenes shot by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for this clip (I got one girl, I got two wheels / She got 1988 Mariah Carey hair / You do not need a Uber, you don ' t need a cab) .To succeed in this highly charged mix, Macklemore surrounded himself with 70's and 80's hip hop stars as Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel  or even Grandmaster Caz. Well-on, official Mackelmore’s  producer  is  also involved. Thus, we get as a results furious choreographies, tags on the walls, scooter races, hip-hop battles to finish on a high note on a huge rally where all the actors will sing the refrain together in a way to keep it long in head. It remains to see if Macklemore would manage to do as well with his Downtown as Uptown Funk.
